It started with the Brooklyn Comic’s Festival which was adorable. All day I’ve been trying to think of a better word to describe it—one less cloying, more nuanced, anything! But that’s it—adorable. It was in the basement of a church and everyone came in from the rain and cold and was friendly and excited. There was church Christmas decorations and Peter Saul told us the truth! Peter Saul said he didn’t know any bay area artists in the 60s because he was too busy being aloof and enjoying his girlfriend and loving smoking. I bought a little comic by Matt Wiegle called “Why Did I Put this Town on My Face” and I loved it immediately. Then quick on the train to Cori’s reading. Cori commanded and she was great. The next girl read and she had curly hair with bangs (See, you should get bangs, Stacie said). She read a poem about sex and it was graphic and the fidgety guy next to me laughed too hard. At the Q & A a woman said “I’d like to make an intervention. That man’s laughing made me feel uncomfortable.” Everyone fought. It was terrific. To appease the crowd the poet read Baudelaire. “My heart laid bare” she kept repeating.

We ate at Vanessa’s Dumpling and I ordered everything I ever wanted to order and it was only $5! Dumpling soup! Pork buns! Veggie pancake sandwich! On to Laura’s for wine and sock reheating on the furnace. It’s cold here guys! And Laura and Stacie are the best friends you could ever want. A band at Union Pool—a very young girl with a beautiful voice and terrible lyrics. And then on to the birthday party! There was lots of dancing. The kind of dancing where you imagine you are the best dancer ever. When they played Jay-Z’s “Empire State of Mind” we all felt it. I mean, these streets will make you feel brand new.

Goofing off in Stacie’s studio

Goofing off in Stacie’s studio

I don’t know …I’ve been coming around to cats...

I don’t know …I’ve been coming around to cats lately. Though, I have only allowed myself the pleasure of this chicken on two occasions, both when I was slightly more than tipsy. It’s the only way to justify this chicken which is fried in what? Gold? Magnificence? The most decadent (deplorable?) fat ever?

A heart attack never tasted so good.

I’ve been playing around with my new flavors.me site....

I’ve been playing around with my new flavors.me site. I’ve been trying to create a website for myself and one for SOFA so I was thinking this might be an easy way out of the ftp confusion (I just can’t get the ftp linked up to the domain or server or help?). I don’t think so, really, though. It’s pretty and easy to use but I should know how to semi-build a site. Looks like a dreamweaver class at the community college might be in my future.

Late start breakfast: soft boiled eggs on toast.

Late start breakfast: soft boiled eggs on toast.

At the Met today they had works of art shrouded in black cloth...

At the Met today they had works of art shrouded in black cloth to commemorate world AID’s day.

We watched this Unplugged on my 17th birthday in Dan’s finished basement. Boy and girl alike, we were enthralled and kept saying something like “Damn, Maxwell is so smooth!” I think Fiona Apple came on right after. She danced weird. My teenage social life could probably be mapped through a series of events that occurred in finished basements (my family didn’t have one).
