I went to the Sufjan Steven’s hosted event at the 92nd St. Y last night. My friend, Deborah, does amazing animation for his live concerts and so had free tickets. It was a very pleasant, chummy night. I felt old. Like these were some really cute kids playing hard and making very very pretty music. This is not to say there weren’t some amazing moments. DM Stith (an album I couldn’t stop playing last spring) was elegiac and sincere The Osso ladies seemed to be having fun. Steven’s film about the BQE was overdone and a little too booming for my taste, but also had neat qualities—like when the cars would kaleidoscope into one another.
I think there were lots of famous people in the room. Kids around us kept trying to “get” pictures with people in the background. Though, none of us knew who these people were. Despite all that twee, the 92nd St. Y in Tribeca! You get to sit down and they sell beer for $3!
